316L Stainless Steel Forged Shafts Manufacturer

CS Heavy Forgings manufactures custom 316L stainless-steel forged shafts, rollers, rings, flanges and process components for marine, chemical and corrosion-sensitive industrial environments.

316L is a low-carbon molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel generally considered where corrosion exposure is more severe than standard 304L service. Actual suitability still depends on chemicals, chloride level, temperature, stress, fabrication, surface condition and the governing material specification.

Review the broader steel grades for heavy forgings guide before comparing material families. Final selection remains the responsibility of the purchaser or component designer and must follow the complete drawing and specification.

Target applications

  • Marine and coastal-equipment shafts
  • Chemical and process-industry components
  • Corrosion-resistant rollers and rings
  • Drawing-specific stainless-steel forgings

Custom forging and supply options

Enquiries can be reviewed for as-forged, heat-treated, rough-machined or finished-machined supply according to the drawing. State the required material condition, machining allowance, tolerances, surface requirements and inspection stage when requesting a quotation.

Relevant CS Heavy Forgings capabilities include custom forged shafts, marine forging solutions, forged rings and flanges.

Technical information required

  • Complete material designation and governing standard
  • Component drawing, forging size and finished dimensions
  • Heat treatment, hardness and mechanical-property requirements
  • Machining allowance, tolerances and surface finish
  • Ultrasonic, chemical, mechanical, hardness or PMI testing
  • Quantity, unit weight, delivery location and inspection plan

Properties and grade equivalents are not guaranteed from a trade name alone. They are confirmed against the agreed purchase specification and material test documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 316L requested for marine or process components?

Its molybdenum-bearing stainless composition is commonly selected for improved corrosion resistance in many marine, chemical and process environments compared with 304L, subject to engineering review.

Is 316L automatically suitable for seawater shafts?

No material should be approved from the grade name alone. Water chemistry, chlorides, temperature, loading, crevice conditions, surface finish and applicable marine standard must be reviewed.
