Steel Grades for Heavy Forgings

Match the material to the forged product

Forged shafts and rods

EN8 and EN9 can suit general engineering enquiries, while EN19 and EN24 are commonly requested for higher-load shaft applications. Where corrosion resistance is central to the specification, buyers may request 304L or 316L stainless steel. Review the complete forged shaft manufacturing capability.

Forged cranks and crankshafts

Crank and crankshaft enquiries should be evaluated around fatigue loading, section size, heat treatment, machining allowance and inspection. EN19 and EN24 are priority commercial grades for this product family. See the forged cranks manufacturer page.

Forged rolls and stepped rolls

Die blocks and hot-work tooling

H12, H13 and DB6 belong in the tool-steel conversation rather than being grouped with ordinary shaft steel. Enquiries should specify required condition, hardness range, machining allowance and ultrasonic-testing acceptance criteria.

Terms such as “Class 3” or “Class 4” are not complete material specifications without the associated standard. Buyers should provide the full specification before the grade is quoted or presented as an equivalent.
